Apple has purchased AuthenTec that offers fingerprint security on PCs and mobile devices for $356 million. The company also develops encryption technology, fingerprint sensors and identity management software. Some of their current customers include, Cisco, Fujitsu, HBO, HP, Lenovo, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, and Texas Instruments.
Samsung has recently signed a deal with AuthenTec for its QuickSec VPN security for its new Android smartphone and tablets. AuthenTec will continue to license existing technology to its partners and has number of patents. Apple will pay $20.0 million for non-exclusive licenses and other rights and a sum of up to $115.0 million to make the patents perpetual. With this deal, we can expect enterprise features for its iOS devices and Mac OS.
